This event was set up in 2006 by the AISL with support from Australian Clay Target Association, Target Rifle Australia and Pistol Australia in order to provide a competition pathway for developing shooters in the Olympic events.
It’s structured into three age groups, 12-16, 17-20 and 21-25 but is also inclusive of Elite Athletes with a Disability (EAD). Previously we have attracted international competitors from New Zealand, Singapore and Fiji, and we aim to extend that to present this event as a vital stepping stone for developing shooters with in the Oceania and other regional countries.
In 2007 the introduction of an overall final for each Olympic event provided another element to developing young shooters for stepping into senior competition while still providing age related competition.
A very big thank you to all those who volunteered and helped out at the 2007 event. Especially the AISL office staff, Nick Sullivan, Dennis Claxton, Spencer Tweedie, Gleniss Lawrence, Greg Chan, the staff at SISC and also all the parents who attended or helped get their kids to the event.
Thanks to all the sponsors of the 2007 AISL Youth National Championships, we are developing a sponsors list for 2008 so if you are interested in supporting this event please contact us via the Information Page.
